# Check an Australian supplier or charity

Check an Australian supplier, charity or contractor before payment, using public business, charity and government contract records.

## When to use it

Use this before first payment to an Australian supplier, grant-delivery partner or vendor claiming a federal contract. A business-name match is not proof of control or payment authority.

## How it works

1. **Find the right business** Search by name, state or postcode. Review exact, near and shared-name matches and confirm the intended business with you.
2. **Review the record** Open the ABN record for entity type, ABN status, GST registration history and business names.
3. **Check company and charity records** Review company and charity registration details where they apply.
4. **Check government contracts** Look for public government contract records when the supplier claims federal work, then prepare the brief with evidence gaps.

## Review points

- Ask you to confirm the intended entity when results are ambiguous.
- Keep each identifier and its source period visible. Treat missing fields as unknown.
- A record check is not legal, credit or identity-verification advice.
